Optimization of a linear induction machine with a solid working body

K. I. Kim - Yu. M. Gorislavets - V. N. Klochkova - V. I. Levchenko

Abstract
Optimization is considered for a cylindrical linear induction generator; the stator winding lies on the internal and external cores of the magnetic system, while the working body is a highly conducting liquid. Generators are envisaged that have a constant speed for the working body along the channel length. Such a generator is in fact only one of the elements in the system, so its optimization should be combined with the same for the apparatus as a whole, which is done via parameters common to all elements of the system. These parameters are the velocity and flow rate of the working body. A description is given of the calculation algorithm for computer use, while the criteria for optimal behavior are the efficiency and the specific weight of the generator. Results are given for a generator of power 20 MW.
