Waves in a polarizable medium

Abstract
Small-amplitude waves and ordinary waves are considered in a nonconducting medium which can be isotropically and inhomogeneously magnetized and polarized in an electromagnetic field. The case of an ideal gas is analyzed in detail. It is established that the wave propagation is anisotropic and the state of the medium is unstable.
