Rotating permanent magnets' MHD seal

Abstract
Results of more detailed MHD seal models taking into account the influence of electric current (\Rm ≠ 0), ferromagnetic yokes and seal channel design are presented. Analytic expressions for the electromagnetic field distribution in a MHD seal gap are received. The theoretical model was a ferromagnetic yoke, a permanent magnets system and a channel with nonconducting walls. For averaged over the channel cross-section electromagnetic quantities a system of two integral Fredholm-type equations was obtained. For various \Rm and free surface levels the distributions of the magnetic field along the channel as well as the integral forces acting on the liquid are presented. Tables 2, Figs 5, Refs 8.
