Abstract
On the basis of the flexible magnetic filament model its self-propulsion in an AC magnetic field is found. It is shown that to have a steady propulsion, the magnetic heterogeneity of the filament and the account of the anisotropy of the friction coefficient are essential. Qualitative and quantitative agreement with the model similar to the previously considered for internally driven filaments is obtained. The thrust developed by the magnetic swimmer can have the order of magnitude of the force generated by the molecular motors. Figs 7, Refs 23.
