Abstract
In the framework of the collaboration between the Institute of Physics of University of Latvia (IPUL) and the Institute for Plasma Research (IPR, India) a helical-type electromagnetic induction pump with rotating permanent magnets for high output discharge pressure heads up to 13.0 bars and flow rates of lead/lithium eutectic alloy up to 3.0 L/s with the operating temperature 350oC has been developed. Results of the pump tests demonstrate a very good agreement between the theoretically calculated pump pressure-flow rate characteristics and the actually measured pump characteristics. This pump will be used at IPR for the liquid metal loop in liquid metal MHD experiments and in other R&D experiments, including studies of thermo-fluid MHD phenomena with the lead/lithium eutectic alloy as the process fluid in a strong transverse magnetic field. That is why the high pump output discharge pressure was specified as the main pump parameter. Figs 5, Refs 6.
