Theoretical and experimental studies of the self-excitation regimes associated with interaction of a traveling magnetic field and a flow of ionized gas

V. S. Kushnir - I. I. Novikov - L. D. Pichakhchi - V. N. Fokin

Abstract
This paper deals with the interaction between a plplasma flow and the magnetic field of the traveling wave produced by a line with lumped inductances and capacitances. Mathematical expressions are obtained for the amplification factor, the power delivered to the load resistance, the electrical efficiency, and the positive feedback under self-excitation conditions, with allowance for leakage fluxes and the finite value of the ratio of duct width to wavelength. The analytical results are in good agreement with the data of experiments in which the plasma was simulated by a moving metal conductor. Self-excitation conditions and steady-state generation of sinusoidal oscillations were investigated on models. Tables 1, Figs. 5.
