Possibility of allowing for MHD effects in the laminar motion of a liquid-metal drop in a dielectric medium

A. P. Zambran

Abstract
The steady-state motion of a liquid-metal drop in a longitudinal magnetic field is considered. A system of equations is formulated and boundary conditions established. The dissipation of the energy of the drop as Joule heat is considered and an expression is given for the additional braking force. An exact expression is given for the resistance coefficient for Re < 1 and weak magnetic fields M << 1. It is shown qualitatively that the presence of a magnetic field increases the stability of motion and the time required for the deformation and disintegration of the drop. Figs 1, Refs 4.
