Potential distribution in an electromagnetic flow rate meter

N. I. Loginov

Abstract
An electromagnetic liquid metal flow meter consisting of a longitudinal-flow cylinder with a cylindrical, diametrically magnetized core is discussed. The potential distribution in the walls of this sensor, in the surrounding flow, and in the tubing is determined. The problem is solved analytically assuming that the magnetic field extends to infinity and that the flow is axisymmetric. Equations are derived that relate the potential distribution and the meter output voltage to the flow rate and to the electric and geometric properties of the flow, the meter, and the tubing.
