Effects of pipe shape on the parameters of a cylindrical pump

M. Yu. Abritska - N. S. Bugrov - A. E. Mikel'son - N. P. Chemodurov

Abstract
An analysis is presented for the forces on conducting solid and hollow cylinders in a traveling magnetic field as provided by an ideal coil and by a finite coil with a discrete winding. The calculated curves are compared with experimental ones. If a linear cylindrical pump has a nonferromagnetic core, the efficiency of the system can be increased by an order of magnitude, or even more. The optimal thickness for the internal core is dependent on the nature of the metal, the frequency used, and the parameters of the pipe and coil.
