Experimental determination of the stability of laminar flow with magnetohydrodynamic rotation

Abstract
The article describes a unit which makes it possible to measure the friction torque over the range of Hartmann numbers 0.005 ≤ Had ≤ 0.04. It is shown that, for the friction torque, there is satisfactory agreement between theoretical and experimental results for Hartmann numbers in the range 0.005 ≤ Had ≤ 0.01. The straight-line character of the dependence of the friction torque on Had for Had > 0.01, differing from the parabolic characterforthe theoretical dependence, is evidence of the establishment of new flow conditions, under whioh the connection between the friction torque and the Hartmann number is linear, i.e., the so-called laminar-vortical flow conditions.
