Circulating currents in the winding of an induction MHD machine with parallel branches in phase

B. L. Birger

Abstract
The circulating currents flowing in coils of the winding of a single-wave machine in the presence of two parallel branches in the winding are calculated. The circulating currents appear in machines of finite length as a consequence of the different inductive reactance of the coils arranged asymmetrically over the length of the magnetic circuit. It is shown that in some cases the circulating currents can be used for compensating the longitudinal edge effect.
