Approximate method of calculating forces acting on conducting bodies in a moving magnetic field and its physical interpretation

Yu. K. Krumin'

Abstract
A simple graphic method is proposed for determining electrodynamic forces acting on conducting bodies in a moving magnetic field for any value of the magnetic Reynolds number. The accuracy of the method is several percent. To apply the method it is necessary to know the so-called basic characteristics of the dependence of the relative force on the magnetic Reynolds number, the determination of which is formulated in the article. These characteristics permit comparing the graphs of the relative force on the magnetic Reynolds number within the indicated accuracy. A table of some of the most important values of these coefficients is compiled for the theoretically calculated cases. References to papers in which their values are given in detail are also given. The physical processes occurring in conducting bodies in a moving magnetic field in cases corresponding to the characteristics regions of the dependence of the relative force on the magnetic Reynolds number and described by the basic characteristics of this dependence are analyzed.
