Abstract
Results are presented for the experimental investigation of turbulence in flows with large mean-velocity gradients in the flow core. It is shown that in such flows, in spite of the suppressing action of the field, the level of turbulence increases sharply in the zone of large gradients. It is established that in a transverse field contiguous wjth the liquid, the conducting surface reduces the level of turbulence, and for definite conditions it also stops its generation. Using such an effect, it proved to be possible for the first time to obtain a laminar (without pulsations) MDH flow for a small channel length.
