Heat exchange of a vertical plate in a longitudinal magnetic field

M. Z. Zhivov - Yu. A. Sokovishin

Abstract
Convective heat exchange between an electrically insulated vertical plate and a conducting fluid in a longitudinal magnetic field is considered. A potential difference is created at the ends of the plate, which produces a current inside the plate. The equations derived for a hydromagnetic boundary layer of the second kind are integrated numerically by using self-similar variables. Because of the large number of parameters, the calculations are performed by keeping some of the parameters constant, and the effect of free convection on the heat exchange is determined. It is shown that heat exchange is intensified in the case of combined action of free and forced convection; otherwise it diminishes.
