Particle motion in crossed electric and magnetic fields for large Reynolds numbers

V. I. Popov

Abstract
A semiempirical expression is proposed for the velocity of spherical particles in a conducting fluid medium in a variable gravity field under the action of electromagnetic forces for large Reynolds numbers. The numerical results are compared with the author's experimental data on the velocities of solid dielectric and conducting particles and of liquid-metal drops under nearly weightless conditions in crossed uniform electric and magnetic fields. The proposed expression is recommended for engineering calculations of the velocities of individual particles of low-dispersity emulsions and suspensions.
