Abstract
The effect of a transverse magnetic field on the resistance coefficient of round and flat sudden expansions in sodium and mercury flows was investigated experimentally. The local resistance coefficient increases linearly with increase in the MHD interaction parameter and depends on the mutual position of the magnet poles and the plane of the expansion shoulder. The pressure distributions on the perimeter and along the length of the sudden expansion section are illustrated.
