Experimental investigation of the pressure distribution for constrained MHD flow past cylinders

Abstract
Measuraments are carried out for the pressure distribution along the walls of a rectangular channel in which a circular cylinder is placed, for a mercury now in a transverse magnetic field. It is determined that for a sufficiently strong magnetic field the flow is converted into a Stokes now. The criterion for transition to this regime is determined experimentally. We obtain verification that there exist Ludford-type layers in the region of sharp variation of the geometry of the now bowldaries in a strollg magnetic field. The effect of confinement of the now on the pressure distribution along the channel walls is investigated.
