Abstract
An approximate solution is obtained for the boundary-value problem describing in the electrodynamic approximation the flow of a fluid in an MHD duct with extended electrodes at finite magnetic Reynolds numbers. An expression is derived for the total current flowing in perfectly conducting strips shorted at x→ −∞ as a function of the applied voltage, the decay character of the external field outside the interelectrode zone, the length of the electrodes, and the magnetic Reynolds number. An expression is found for the electromagnetic radiation pressure developed in the MHD duct.
