Overall characteristics of an induction-type magnetohydrodynamic machine with a flat channel. II. Calculation results

I. R. Kirillov - I. V. Lavrent'ev

Abstract
The article gives the results of a calculation of the overall characteristics of an induction-type magnetohydrodynamic machine with a flat channel, for nonconducting and ideally conducting walls, taking account of longitudinal and transverse edge effects. It also discusses the possibility of compensation of the longitudinal end effect by two compensating currents at the ends of the active zone. The calculating expressions are functions of the magnetic Reynolds number, of the slip, and of the relative dimensions: the length of the wound zone, the width of the channel, and the length of the sections taking account of shunting of the magnetic flux. The effect of the above parameters on the overall characteristics is evaluated.
