Structure of the magnetic field and number of poles of a linear induction machine

V. I. Chesonis

Abstract
An analysis shows that, with a bypassing conductivity between the back edges of the inductors and the active part of the gap, there are always pulsating components of the field. With an even number of poles the structure of the field in the gap is simplified compared to an uneven or fractional number of poles. A fractional number of poles for which the field in the gap would be a purely running field does not exist.
