Abstract
The article gives the results of a theoretical and experimental investigation of the effect of a gradient magnetic field on the resistance coefficient of flow-through channels of round cross section. Optimal relationships of the dimensions of the working channel and the magnetic system are determined, ensuring a maximum effectiveness of the action of the field on the flow. It is shown that the absolute rise in the resistance coefficient in this case makes it possible to build devices for regulating the mass flow rate of liquid metal flows, i.e., magnetohydrodynamic throttles with a gradient magnetic field. The results obtained can be used for the design of such devices.
