Abstract
We have experimentally investigated the effect of a transverse magnetic field on the drag coefficient of circular diaphragms in sodium flows. We have determined the dependence of the drag coefficient on the relative area of the transfer aperture of the diaphragm. We have shown that it is possible to effectively control the flow rate of an electrically conducting fluid in hydraulic systems by means of a constant magnetic field, when the control section is in the form of a circular tube with a diaphragm built into it.
