Effect of the geometric parameters of a magnetic system on the motion of a melt in an induction furnace

A. V. Svido - L. L. Tir

Abstract
The distribution of the relative vertical component of the velocity of the motion of a melt at the axis of the crucible was determined in models of induction-type crucible furnaces, with different degree of filling with metal. With an increase in the amount of melt, the height of the upper circulation loop and the intensity of the motion in it increase, while in the lower loop they decrease. A study was made of the angle of taper of the crucible on the motion of the melt. The redistribution of the flows of metal with which the height of the lower loop increases, while the velocity of the motion in it rises, is clarified. The dependence of the motion on the relative height of the electromagnetic system is determined.
