Effect of the electrical conductivity of the secondary magnetic circuit on the characteristics of induction-type magnetohydrodynamic devices

I. V. Veselov - Yu. K. Krumin' - A. F. Shkol'nikov

Abstract
A study is made of the question of the degree of worsening of the parameters of magnetohydrodynamic machines when the secondary magnetic circuit is not made in loaded form, but in the form of a solid ferromagnetic body with a finite electrical conductivity. To this end, two problems are solved, in which the electromagnetic processes in conducting bodies, a strip and a hollow cylinder, are determined. In both cases, expressions are obtained for the longitudinal component, averaged with respect to the time and with respect to the electrodynamic force. The article gives the results of measurements of the force acting on a hollow aluminum cylinder put into the cylindrical inductor of a running field. The calculated values of the force are in good agreement with experimental data.
