Electrodynamic excitation of ultrasonic vibrations in liquid metals

Abstract
A rigorous solution is obtained to the problem concerning the excitation of vibrations in a plane-parallel layer of liquid metal in a constant magnetic field by means of an alternating magnetic field generated by a solenoid. On the basis of this solution are then analyzed validity ranges of various approximations used for practical solutions to problems of this kind. The distribution of hydrodynamic pressure in such a layer is also examined.
