Transverse edge effect in a rectangular MHD-channel with a finitely sectionalized side wall and variable anisotropic conductivity of the flow

L. K. Kovalev - Yu. M. Nikitin

Abstract
A study is made of the transverse edge effect in MHD-channels with finitely sectionalized side walls, with inhomogeneous distributions of the velocity and conductivity of the flow in a cross section of a channel with a Hall effect. The solution of the corresponding two-dimensional problem is constructed by the method of integral equations. The voltage of noload operation and the internal resistance of an MHD-channel with different geometries of the electrodes and the metallic modules are determined. The effect of the edge effect on the integral and local electrical characteristics of an MHD-channel with π-shaped side walls and a finitely sectionalized side wall is discussed.
