Industrial use of magnetodynamic devices

V. P. Polishchuk

Abstract
The article considers questions connected with the use of MHD techniques in various industrial processes in metallurgy and in the casting industry. It gives an analysis of the work of MHD devices, taking account of the specific characteristics of these processes. It proposes criteria, which must be used in a comparative evaluation of the suitability of MHD equipment of various types under these conditions. The article points out the advantages of MHD devices of the magnetodynamic type, developed in the Institute for Problems of Casting of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, with application to metallurgical and casting processes. The art~le casts light on some results of the industrial use of MDN-6 units (magnetodynamic pumps] for the casting of lead, aluminum, and zinc alloys. It is shown that the use of MDN-6 in various industrial processes assures an increase in the quality of the ingots, an increase in the productivity of labor, and an improvement in the hygienic conditions in casting units, with considerable savings.
