An MHD induction machine with widening channel. Part. Theory

Abstract
The problem is solved concerning the distribution of an induced magnetic field in a widening plane MHD channel and, as a result, integral characteristics are obtained. Features which are peculiar to the compensation of the lateral edge effect in such machines are also analyzed, as is the effect of a widening channel on the machine characteristics. The MHD channels with a magnetic field traveling longitudinally, at a constant or a lengthwise variable phase velocity, are then considered and their efficiencies in both cases compared.
