Establishment of the conditions of an MHD generator with autoexcitation

Abstract
The problem of determining the flow parameters in the channel of an MHD generator, part of whose current goes for the creation of an intrinsic magnetic field, with a transient process following the connection of the circuits of the load and the magnet, is stated and solved by the method of characteristics. In addition to the obvious effect of the time constant of the circuit of the magnet and the time of the propagation of a perturbation over the channel on the time required for the establishment of the conditions, it is shown that the time required for establishment of the conditions can be considerably effected by the derivative of the function of the inductance of the the magnetic field with respect to the current of the magnet. It has been observed that, in some cases, the current generated rises at moments of time exceeding the saturation time of the magnetic field.
