Effect of inhomogeneity of the conductivity on the end effect in an MHD generator with solid electrodes

Abstract
The article discusses the problem of the distribution of the potential in the end region of an MHD generator with solid semiinfinite electrodes, an inhomogeneous conductivity, and an exponentially falling magnetic field outside of the electrode zone. The conductivity is assumed to depend on the transverse coordinate and to be modelled by a function which permits an analytical solution of the problem. The solution obtained offered the possibility of investigating the integral characteristics of the generator. The article gives curves of the end increments of the inhomogeneity of the conductivity.
