Calculation of the electromagnetic field in the active gap of a three-phase MHD gate

Abstract
The 2D calculation of electromagnetic field with an account of the fringe effects both at the ends and along the gap height has been presented. The current carrying windings on the magnetic yoke surface have been assumed to have a discrete distribution. The calculated curves of the normal component of the magnetic field have been compared with experimental data obtained for a MHD gate serving to maintain aluminium melt. Figs 2, refs 4.
