Heat transfer in a turbulent boundary layer of an electrically induced vortical flow in a cylindrical vessel

F. I. Gamzaev - L. A. Volokhonskii

Abstract
Analytical formulae for the coefficient of effective heat conductivity in a turbulent boundary layer as well as for the heat flux density towards the side wall of a cylindrical vessel in the presence of electrically induced vortical flows have been derived.Contrary to the known methods of heat flux calculation along the flow, when an arbitrary velocity profile (parabolic, Togarithmic etc. ) in the hydrodynamic boundary layer is chosen, we used here experimental results obtained by mercury models. The paper aims at improving the calculation methods of electroslag, vacuum.arc and other electrometallurgical furnaces. Figs 2, refs 5.
