Theory of a torque viscosimeter in an axial magnetic field

Abstract
A solution of the problem on torque oscillations of a cylinder filled with a conducting liquid in an axial uniform steady magnetic field has been found. By using numerical simulation of viscosimetric experiments the dependences of the effective viscosity νeff of meta1ic and semiconductor melts on the applied field have been calculated. It has been shown that the predictable increase of νeff caused by the increase of the field flux density is approximately the same as the increase reported in available experimental papers. Attention has been paid to the essential dependence of νeff on the viscosimeter parameters. Tab. 1, figs 2, refs 7.
