Equilibrium of a magnetic fluid drop in a field of a magnet with a rectangular pole

Abstract
The equilibrium conditions for a magnetic fluid drop located in a narrow flat channel have been investigated. A permanent magnet in the form of a rectangular paralelepiped at one of the channel walls ensures the magnetic confinement of the fluid. The equilibrium could be lost because of applied force of constant density, for example, the gravity of the drop. Numerical calculation was done at characteristic values of parameters corresponding to real ultrasound defectoscope devices with magnetic fluid acoustic contact. Figs 5, refs 3.
