Undulation instability of ferrosmectics

Abstract
The conditions of neutrality of a multilameller magnetic system have been derived using the results of analysis of magnetic field perturbations at buckling of this system. The obtained formula for critical magnetic. field intensity allows to describe the dependence of buckling on magnetic particle volume fraction observed experimentally and provides the order of magnitude corresponding to the observed one. The physical mechanism of instability associated with the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility of the magnetic layers of the ferrosmectic has been discussed, and the necessity of restriction of rotational mobility of the colloidal particles in this case has been noted.
