Solitons on the free surface of a cylindrical magnetic liquid layer

Abstract
A magnetic fluid Iayer covering a straight current-carrying conductor of circular cross-section has heen considered. In linear approach, the effect of the current value on the temporal evolution of a packet of weak dispersive waves on the free surface of the layer has been investigated. The Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation as well as the modified KdV equation have been derived, and their, soliton solutions examined. Figs. 2, refs 9.
