Conduction stirring of a melt in an axisymmetric magnetic field

Abstract
A means of mixing of electrically conducting liquid in a tube with a longitudinal electric current consisting in its location into a periodical applied magnetic field has been proposed. In the Stokes approximation, an analytical solution for the full field of velocity containing azimuthal and meridional motions has been found. The main properties of the velocity field have been determined and the possibilities of the melt motion control as well as of its application to electrometallurgical technology have been pointed out.
