Abstract
The paper is a review of a number of publications dedicated to the investigations of MHD flows generated by the effect of a rotating magnetic field (RMF) on an electrically conducting fluid in a cylindrical volume. Different calculation versions of such flows as well as flow velocity patterns induced by the RMF are discussed and analysed. The paper presents a comparison of the calculated data with the existing experimental results as well as estimations of the calculation accuracy obtainable using the different techniques. Several technical applications employing the RMF for the intensification and control of hydrodynamic and heat/mass transfer processes in the technologies for monocrystal growth, metallurgy, and others, are considered from the point of view of the publications being discussed. The review also defines some problems for future studies. Refs 47.
