Abstract
Using the self-similarity approach, a unified theory is presented for the axisymmetric boundary layer in hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics. Four boundary layer types are discovered. Two examples of these have been analysed in well known monographs on hydrodynamics. In the present article, boundary layers of the first kind are considered; those of the Kaiman class, the fan jet of Loitsyanskii and others belong to this group. The problem is defined both in a complete formulation and in the noninductive and electrodynamic approaches. Consideration is given to the types of the applied magnetic field and of the electric current which would not violate the possibility of the existence of self-similar solutions. Figs 2, Refs 7.
