MHD channel flow: transition to Stokes flow in a strong magnetic field

Abstract
In a strong magnetic field the suppression of 3-D inertial effects takes place in MHD flow. The aim of this work was to study the conditions and nature of 3-D effect suppression and transition to Stokes (inertialess) flow in the magnetic field. Experiments were carried out on channels with high aspect ratio - slotted channels. Test results show that the transition to inertialess flow abruptly in the flow core and is a progressive process in the side layers. The boundary conditions for the transition to inertialess flow in the core are established. Figs 9, Refs 6.
