Abstract
A new method of influencing solidification for continuous casting is discussed. It makes use Lorentz forces generated by the interaction of a direct currents, flowing through the continuously cast slab, and a magnetostatic field. The process of primary crystallization resulting from this method is analyzed. Results of the first industry application and its parameters are stated. The observed effect of the magnetic field on the temperatures and kinetics of phase transformations is confirmed by the re-sults of the technically pure iron experiment. Figs 2, refs 6.
