Abstract
The effect of magnetic field on the frequency-response curve of a magnetic fluid viscous damper is investigated theoretically and experimentally. By applying the magnetic field, the viscosity of a magnetic fluid in the cylinder increases and the viscous damper is controlled. The experimental data on the frequency-response curve in the oscillating motion of piston immersed in the magnetic fluid are compared with the prediction by theoretical analysis. It is clarified that the damping effect of magnetic field on the oscillating motion of the piston increases especially in the low frequency range. Figs 4, refs 9.
