Method for the increasing of effectiveness of ring type stirrer of alloys

Abstract
The paper deals with practical and methodical aspects of the study of urgent problem for metallurgical processes - electromagnetic action on the metal, in particular the stirring of solidifying Fe alloys in a concrete technological device. The direct aim of this work is to create and test a compact (0.58x0.24 m) 3 phase, 2 pole MHD turner/stirrer of the alloy securing the necessary amplitude of the magnetic flux density 0.1 T in the center of the stator (on its axis). In the experiment with alloy In-Ga-Sn the metal velocity in the ringed channel was higher than 1 m/s. Calculation and design problems of analogous devices have been discussed. Data of tests of the created MHD stirrer are in good agreement with the calculated ones. Figs 2, Refs 7.
