Abstract
A numerical method for computing two- and three-dimensional MHD flows is presented. A numerical investigation of flows in rectangular channel over a sudden widening is presented too. The following assumptions are appropriate: the fluid is incompressible, and the induced magnetic field is negligible compared to the imposed field B0. The method is based on a finite difference codes and on a fractional-step scheme. The flow field is represented on a staggered grid. Results are shown for flows at different Hartmann numbers, Reynolds numbers and different angles of the magnetic field. Numerical solutions for MHD-flows are compared with experimental date, theoretical solutions and other numerical results. Variants according to MHD-generator, MHD-pump and MHD-brake are considered.
