Abstract
This research work was conducted to find the possibility of controlling the initial solidification in the continuous casters by applying a high-frequency magnetic field. Bench-scale casting experiments were carried out using aluminum or steel. The improvement of cast surface quality was observed when imposing magnetic field increased. This phenomenon was supposed to be mainly caused by the magnetic pressure from the results of mathematical analysis. Table 1, Figs 9, Refs 5.
