Abstract
Experimental investigation of the free surface shapes of the magnetic fluid near the magnetizable plate in the applied external magnetic field are conducted. The free surface shapes are shown to be dependent on the plate size, its orientation relative to the applied magnetic field vector, magnitude of the magnetic field and the magne-tic fluid volume surrounding the plate. It is found that cone-shaped vapour cavities can arise in the magnetic fluid volume surrounding the plate. The number of the cavi-ties depends on the length of the plate, the magnetic fluid volume and the magnetic field magnitude. Figs 12, Refs 5.
