Conducting fluid rotation caused by asynchronous machine stator field

Abstract
The turbulent liquid-metal MHD flow in cylindrical vessel caused by the action of rotating magnetic field has been studied experimentally and theoretically. For the first time the average angular velocity dependence on the magnetic field frequency has been investigated. The experimental results have been compared with the semiempirical "external friction" model calculations. This comparison allowed to define "external friction" model constants for the more then one number of rotating magnetic field poles. Two critical points vortex structure transition and turbulence transition have been discovered. These transitions conditions have been obtained from the theory. Figs 3, Refs 8.
