Abstract
The paper deals with a rotating magnetic field induced liquid metal flow in a trun-cated cylinder of variable aspect ratio. A numerical fit is obtained for the maximum velocity of the azimuthal flow in a wide range of parameters that are of practical interest in crystal growth. The criterion for the Taylor-Görtler instability is ob-tained in terms of the flow parameters and shown analogous to the Taylor criterion for a flow between rotating cylinders.Figs 4, Refs 17.
