Role of internal rotations in selected magnetic fluid applications

Abstract
Dissipation takes place in colloidal magnetic fluid having particles rotated out of equilibrium, and the fluid can support a state of asymmetric magnetic and viscous stress yielding a weakening of forces. This work examines the influence of shear rate on magnetization of magnetic fluid, and the heating of magnetic fluid subjected to oscillatory and rotating fields. The importance to devices and systems is noted, and the consistency of stress tensor and field energy descriptions is illustrated. Figs 10, Refs 12.
