Steady state magnetoviscosity of a dilute ferrofluid

Abstract
It is shown that the newtonian steady state magnetoviscosity of a dilute ferrofluid can be calculated in concise manner from the solution of the linearized Smoluchowski equation for the single-particle orientational distribution function. The exact result for the magnetoviscosity, as a function of applied magnetic field, is compared with earlier approximate expressions derived by Shliomis and by Martsenyuk et al Figs 2, Refs 14.
